Misery Continues for Lazio Women Following 2-0 Loss to Empoli Ladies

Lazio Women’s disastrous start to the season continues with a 2-0 loss to Empoli Ladies yesterday.

Coach Massimiliano Cantini’s arrival has unfortunately failed to produce a turning point in the season for the Biancocelesti, who still sit at rock bottom of the Serie A Femminile table after seven games, sitting on a pitiful zero points.

Below are the two squads in Lazio Women’s 2-0 loss to Empoli Ladies yesterday (via Lazio):

  • Lazio Women (4-2-3-1): Serena Natalucci; Nora Heroum, Ludovica Falloni, Federica Savini, Camilla Labate; Antonietta Castiello (82′ Sarah Mattei), Virginia Di Giammarino (46′ Ella Jade Mastrantonio); Francesca Pittaccio, Adriana Martin (54′ Arianna Pezzotti), Rachel Cuschieri (45’+2′ Giorgia Zuzzi); Noemi Visentin.
  • Empoli Ladies (4-3-3): Alessia Capelletti; Elisabetta Oliviero, Sara Mella, Anna Knol, Aurora De Rita; Norma Cinotti (88′ Sara Tamborini), Bianca Bardin, Cecilia Prugna; Asia Bragonzi (88′ Elena Nichele), Chante Domping (79′ Isotta Nocchi), Melissa Bellucci (70′ Ludovica Silvioni).

Lazio were instantly on the back foot against Empoli, who scored their opening goal in the 35th minute to make it 1-0, thanks to a good move from Bellucci and Oliviero.

A first-half change by Catini did little to level the playing field and the Roman club went into the break lucky to be only down by one.

In the second half, Catini tried out a few more changes, but nothing could stop the onslaught and eventually, Empoli found their second, with Prugna scoring a penalty in the 87th minute to secure the three points for the Tuscan side.

The stats paint a depressing picture for Lazio Women. Empoli had 23 shots to Lazio’s one, six of which were on target. The Biancocelesti’s solitary chance was not on target.

The Tuscan side had 63% possession and completed 75% of their 418 passes, a huge gap compared to the Roman club’s 37% possession and 54% success rate of their 255 passes.
