Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva will decide whether or not to leave the club at the end of the season.
As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder’s contract expires with the club next year in June 2022 and he is currently unsure whether or not to sign an extension.
Leiva may decide to try a new adventure to close out his career, possibly moving to Brazil where he can return to Gremio.
Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri will likely continue alternating Leiva and Danilo Cataldi throughout this season and the Brazilian veteran is still a core part of the squad, even if his starting spot is a little more contested now.
Leiva doesn’t want to make his decision until closer to the end of the season and so the next few months will be decisive.
The former Liverpool man has made 11 Serie A appearances so far this season, for a total of 645 minutes.
