Basic Happy at Lazio After Strong Start, “I Would Like to Stay Here for Many Years”

Lazio midfielder Toma Basic is feeling good heading into tonight’s Europa League clash against Olympique Marseille.

Speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference (via LazioNews24) yesterday, the 24-year-old Croatian midfielder first touched on how he feels a couple of months after joining the Biancocelesti.

I’ve been at Lazio for two months now. The feelings are very good.

I would like to stay here for many years.

The Lazio midfielder looked ahead to tonight’s opponents Olympique Marseille.

I know Marseille very well, a few months ago I played here. I know the atmosphere and the strength of the team, there is an intense atmosphere playing here.

We have a difficult game ahead of us but we are ready mentally and physically.

The Croatian midfielder did not take a strong position regarding the decision to ban Lazio fans from attending the match.

These kinds of issues don’t concern me. It would have been nice to see the fans here, but I don’t know what happened.

I hope things go differently.

Basic touched on his decision to sign for Lazio from Bordeaux in the summer transfer window.

I chose Lazio because they’re a great club, it was an easy decision for me. It’s a bigger step up compared to French football.

Italian football I think is an important step for me, here in Italy I can learn new things. We will see what will happen.

He commented on which players he considers his role models.

I could tell you many players. If I have to say one I’d say De Bruyne.

The former Bordeaux midfielder discussed his thoughts on working under coach Maurizio Sarri.

There is a lot of tactics. I am finding myself well, I think I have adapted to the group and understand what he wants.

I’m working to do my best.

Finally, Basic discussed Olympique Marseille forward Arkadiusz Milik.

He’s a great player, who can make a difference. However, we are focused on us, the priority is the group and not the individual player.

I wish him a good game but we will think about Marseille and not Milik in particular.

The 24-year-old Basic, who is contracted to Lazio until 2026, has made eight appearances so far this season for the Biancocelesti, for a total of 319 minutes.

In that time, he has scored a goal and provided an assist, showing both his offensive and defensive qualities.
