Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri was disappointed following the team’s 2-2 draw against Olympique Marseille last night.
Speaking first in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia (via LazioNews24) after the match, the 62-year-old Italian coach commented on the performance against the Ligue 1 side.
We had a difficult game, Marseille are a strong team. Then we drew when we seemed to have it in our hands.
It was a fair result even though we are disappointed not to have won at the end. We have to win the last two.
Electric European Encounter Between Olympique Marseille & Lazio Ends in 2-2 Draw
The Lazio coach commented on how the match against Olympique Marseille developed and the team’s growth.
In the first half we went to a middle ground between pressing and not pressing, we were always late to start and we were often halfway through.
In the second half we got up and did a little bit better. The team is growing.
The former Napoli coach gave his thoughts on the point picked up in the Velodrome.
This is a favourable stage, to draw here is a good result, then at the end we dropped too deep.
We need to have more courage to run on the opponent’s pressure, today we were too timid.
Sarri then discussed the match in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Lazio Style Radio.
First half the problem was being in between pressing and waiting, against a very talented team like them. We are sorry for conceding a goal again at the end, in a dirty battle.
Looking at the standings, not much changes. Now we have to win the direct confrontation at all costs.
He gave his thoughts on the second half of the match.
We pressed with more conviction, giving the feeling of having the game in hand.
My feeling is that we have to defend more because in these unbalanced situations we are vulnerable.

The 62-year-old Italian coach provided an update on the physical conditions of Manuel Lazzari and Ciro Immobile.
Manuel I don’t know, I hope he stopped at the slightest hint of the problem. This is a problem he has had for some time, we hope it is something light and the international break will allow us to recover him. Ciro we decided this morning, he said he felt better or at least willing to try.
Then he is one of the very few players who have such extraordinary scoring numbers, without making you miss anything in all the other phases. Even in defence.
Finally, Sarri looked ahead to the weekend’s match against Salernitana.
The game of truth, after the Europa League.
We scored one point in three games after the Europa League, because we always got them wrong.
Lazio now sit second in their Europa League group after four games, sitting on five points. They are three points behind group leaders Galatasaray.
