Lazio’s Danilo Cataldi Called up for Italy’s Upcoming 2022 World Cup Qualifiers

Lazio midfielder Danilo Cataldi has been called up by coach Roberto Mancini for Italy’s upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

As seen in a post on Lazio’s Twitter page yesterday, the 27-year-old Italian midfielder has joined the Azzurri squad at the training camp in Coverciano due to the injuries sustained by Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini and attacker Nicolo Zaniolo.

This is Cataldi‘s second call-up to the Italian national team, following his two bench appearances in 2016 under coach Gian Piero Ventura. Despite Jorginho and Manuel Locatelli both being present, this time around, he will be hoping to make his Italy debut (against either Switzerland or Northern Ireland).

Cataldi has begun to shine this season under Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri and has featured regularly in the squad, making 14 appearances across all competitions for a total of 615 minutes.

The 27-year-old Italian midfielder is continuing to grow into the perfect replacement for the aging Lucas Leiva.
