Sarri Ready to Deploy Pedro as a False Nine Following Lazio Star Immobile’s Injury

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is planning to use winger Pedro as a false nine following striker Ciro Immobile’s calf injury.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 31-year-old Italian striker has fluid buildup in his left calf and so will be out for around 20 to 30 days, forcing Sarri to tinker with his attack a little ahead of the upcoming matches against Juventus and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Sarri is already thinking of possible solutions and the most likely one seems to be deploying Spanish winger Pedro as a false nine, in a similar way to how he used Dries Mertens at Napoli and Paulo Dybala at Juventus.

Kosovan forward Vedat Muriqi has failed to convince Sarri and the return of Mattia Zaccagni allows the Italian coach to shift Pedro over to the centre.

The 34-year-old Pedro, who is contracted to Lazio until 2023, has scored four goals and provided two assists in 12 Serie A appearances so far this campaign.
