Maurizio Sarri Wants Lazio to Sign a New Backup Striker in January Transfer Window

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri wants a new backup striker to be signed in the upcoming January Transfer Window.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the need for a reliable backup striker is glaringly obvious following star forward Ciro Immobile’s recent left calf injury, with the 62-year-old Italian coach not particularly trusting Kosovan forward Vedat Muriqi.

Muriqi has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this campaign but has failed to find the back of the net across his 203 minutes on the pitch, frustrating Sarri.cThe manager has indeed asked Lazio for a new forward but was not especially convinced by Bodø/Glimt’s Erik Botheim, who the club have been linked to in recent times.

The Italian coach also wants reinforcements in the defence and a new left-back. The departures of Denis Vavro, Gonzalo Escalante, and Vedat Muriqi could facilitate these requests.

Lazio are also set to make a decision regarding their goalkeepers. Both Pepe Reina and Thomas Strakosha’s contracts expire next year in 2022 and it will be necessary to lineup a top shot-stopper should a renewal not be agreed with the Albanian.
