Claudio Lotito Wants to Extend Maurizio Sarri’s Contract to Send Clear Signal to Team

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is furious after the loss to Napoli and wants to extend coach Maurizio Sarri’s contract as soon as possible.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti president is incredibly frustrated with the team’s lacklustre performance in the 4-0 thrashing to Napoli on Sunday and he even intended on calling another training retreat.

Eventually, Lotito was persuaded against this idea, but he will personally talk to the Lazio squad ahead of the next match against Udinese on Thursday.

Lotito believes that extending Sarri’s contract until 2025 will send a clear signal to the squad that he is central to the project and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. The 62-year-old Italian coach was offered the contract extension after the loss to Hellas Verona but he was taking his time.

Now, things are different, and he has agreed to extend his stay in order to silence the rumours about Gennaro Gattuso potentially arriving or that he will leave next summer.
