Lazio Midfielder Basic: “From a Mental Point of View We Have to Grow”

Lazio midfielder Toma Basic highlighted the need for growth following last night’s 4-4 draw with Udinese.

Speaking in an interview with Italian broadcaster Lazio Style Channel after the game, the 25-year-old Croatian midfielder discussed the draw against the Bianconeri.

Today was a complicated match. After being behind twice we had the strength to react and turn the game around.

It was a pity to be caught because the come back was something positive.

The Lazio midfielder found the positives despite the disappointing final result.

This is football and a night like tonight can happen, but it’s important for the mentality to play matches like these.

It had already happened with Atalanta. I thought my assist would have helped for the three points, but it didn’t.

Finally, Basic touched on the importance of growth and looked ahead to the next game against Sampdoria.

Ours is a problem that concerns various things. From a mental point of view we have to grow. In any case, the great thing about football is that you can change things every day.

We’ll try to do that with Sampdoria, trying to pick up the three points there.

The 25-year-old Basic, who is contracted to Lazio until 2026, has made 14 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 535 minutes. In that time, he has scored one goal and provided two assists.

Lazio’s draw last night means that they still sit 9th in the Serie A table after 15 games, three points behind 5th place Roma and only two points ahead of 10th place Hellas Verona.

A victory in the next game against Sampdoria is crucial if the team want to stay involved in the fight for a top four finish this campaign.
