Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has never lost to Sampdoria coach Roberto D’Aversa before.

As collected by stats provider Transfermarkt, the 62-year-old Italian coach has only faced D’Aversa twice before, both coming in the 2019/20 season when he was in charge of Juventus.

That season, Sarri’s Juventus beat D’Aversa’s Parma 1-0 away in the season opener before winning their home match 2-1 five months later.

D’Aversa started his career in coaching with Virtue Lanciano, taking over as head coach in July 2014. He kept them up in Serie B in his first season but was dismissed part way through the following campaign.

In 2016 he took over at Parma and guided the team back to Serie A after two back-to-back promotions, a wonderful achievement for the Italian coach.

He was dismissed by Parma in the summer of 2020 before being brought back in January 2021, but he could not save the team from relegation at the end of the season.
