Sarri Thinks Basic “Will Be Fundamental for Lazio’s Future” After Win vs Sampdoria

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri thought that last night’s 3-1 win over Sampdoria was important following the recent poor results.

Speaking first in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN (via LazioNews24) after the match, the 62-year-old Italian coach first commented on how the match changed as it developed yesterday.

After the red card the match changed, the opponents had much more time to recover, until the sending off we managed well.

The Lazio coach commented on the harsh red card shown to midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

I think that even the referee wasn’t calm, he could’ve had a little more patience, a more experienced referee wouldn’t have acted in the same way.

Milinkovic-Savic did not offend him, he told him you didn’t see sh*t, for the hold before on him.

Sarri spoke about the team’s defence in last night’s match and the impact of such a busy schedule.

The defensive order was easier because of how we were on the field, it’s not comparable to the football of four to five years ago or older.

We’re at the point where we never train, we do one clean workout a month, we work a lot with videos. The many goals conceded should not be blamed only on the defence.

But training like this makes it more difficult to take care of certain situations.

He touched on the injury to star striker Ciro Immobile.

I didn’t understand if he had a pain in his knee, I didn’t understand if it’s a collateral problem or he just took a hit.

The player preferred to stop.

Sarri then discussed the win in an interview with Lazio Style Radio.

Important victory, given that we had much less rest than Sampdoria.

However, at times we played like children, we lost order and became vulnerable.

The 62-year-old Italian coach touched on his decision not to start Luis Alberto and why he took off Immobile at half time.

Luis Alberto played a lot and we preferred to rest him, even in the final minutes. Immobile suffered a blow to his knee and had pain, more specifically to the collateral.

I have to talk to the doctor, but I hope it’s nothing serious.

The Lazio coach commented on the performances of certain players within the squad.

Strakosha, after the mistake in Istanbul, had always done well in the Europa League. Marusic I have seen well in the last few days and today he confirmed my feelings.

Zaccagni had a great first half.

Basic? He will be fundamental for Lazio’s future. After three months he’s already settled in very well and he also has plenty of room for growth.

Sarri discussed the performance of his squad in the match against Sampdoria and which specific players are doing well when speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference.

We need to find more order than the last few games we’ve played. If you lose order you lose balance. The primary request was to have more order and not to lose positions and today that was done.

I don’t think our victory depended on Sampdoria’s attitude, on the contrary, we had a great dribbling performance that could have put anyone in trouble.

At times we are too instinctive and we lose our positions on the pitch. I still don’t know anything about Immobile’s condition, it should be the effect of a blow and I hope it can be resolved.

Basic is a guy who plays quite often, Zaccagni unfortunately was conditioned by some injuries, while now he is having continuity in training.

Basic is precious, he has technical and physical qualities and he will serve us a lot.

Marusic unfortunately had to stop for Covid, but yesterday I saw him brilliant in training and I talked to him and he felt ready, in fact he was.

Finally, Sarri spoke about the red card given to midfielder Milinkovic-Savic.

Milinkovic-Savic said that the referee had not seen anything in the previous foul. A fair referee should have handled certain situations better without any cards.

Milinkovic-Savic should have reacted differently, but Fabbri was too hasty.
