Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha impressed in his Serie A season debut against Sampdoria last night.
As highlighted by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi earlier today, the 26-year-old Albanian shot stopper was called up by coach Maurizio Sarri to replace Pepe Reina in the starting squad in last night’s 3-1 win over Sampdoria, and he did not disappoint.
Strakosha performed confidently in Lazio’s goal and made four saves in the match, stopping 80% of the shots on target that he faced.
The 26-year-old Albanian goalkeeper put the mistake in the loss to Galatasaray behind him and his performance yesterday was decisive in securing the three points for the Biancocelesti, with his saves against Manolo Gabbiadini and Morten Thorsby’s shots in particular being key.
It would be unfair to suggest that Lazio’s recent poor defensive performances are the fault of Reina, but something was different in the backline against Sampdoria last night.
