Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha is set to start against Galatasaray on Thursday and his future is in his hands.
As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, coach Maurizio Sarri was impressed with the 26-year-old Albanian goalkeeper’s performance in the 3-1 win over Sampdoria on Sunday and he wants the shot stopper to confirm his form against Galatasaray this week.
Strakosha’s current contract expires with Lazio next year in 2022 and the club have been lining up possible replacements, including Barcelona’s Neto and Chelsea’s Kepa, but there is a chance he could renew his deal.
Lazio would be willing to renew Strakosha’s contract should he begin putting in consistent performances, something that he has experience doing in Rome in prior seasons.
The 26-year-old Strakosha, who joined Lazio in the summer of 2012, has made six appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 540 minutes. In that time, he has conceded four goals and kept three clean sheets.
