Goalkeeper Muslera Thinks Galatasaray “Cannot Afford to Play” Poorly vs Lazio

Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera highlighted the need for a strong performance against Lazio tomorrow.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 35-year-old Uruguayan shot stopper noted the importance of tomorrow’s Europa League clash against the Biancocelesti.

We cannot afford to play like this anymore. We have to work harder than ever and react. It’s up to us to raise our performance on the pitch, to make all our fans happy.

This is why we have to work harder than ever and start getting good results again. And this is something that applies to both the league and the Europa League.

The 35-year-old Muslera, who is contracted to Galatasaray until 2024, has made 25 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2215 minutes. In that time, he has conceded 31 goals and kept eight clean sheets.

Tomorrow’s match between Lazio and Galatasaray is essentially a play-off match to decide which team will top Group E of the Europa League.

The winner of the group will progress to the Round of 16 directly, whilst the second place team will have to play two play-off matches against a third placed Champions League team in February next year.

Considering the incredibly busy schedule this season, finishing top is key in order to reduce the match load as much as possible.
