Sarri’s Contract Extension With Lazio Depends on Plans for Upcoming Transfer Windows

Coach Maurizio Sarri’s contract extension with Lazio depends on the upcoming January transfer window.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 62-year-old Italian coach expects a couple of reinforcements in next month’s market, namely a left back and a striker. It’s clear already that the limitations of the squad are impacting results.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has never been a big spender but he will have to convince Sarri that he is committed to strengthening the squad next month if he wants the Italian coach to sign the contract extension.

Sarri’s current deal expires with Lazio in 2023 but Lotito wants to offer him a further two years on the deal, tying him to the club until 2025.

Lazio will also have to work on reducing the dead weight present in the squad like Denis Vavro, Jordan Lukaku and Jony, as well as finally registering defender Dimitrije Kamenovic.
