Lotito: “I Am Not the Owner of Lazio but the Custodian of This Passion”

Lazio president Claudio Lotito received the Golden Lion award yesterday after his work with Salernitana.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti president was awarded the ‘Leone d’oro’ award due to his work bringing Salernitana up from the lower divisions to Serie A.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event to broadcaster SportItalia (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lotito spoke about his work as a club president.

I took a Lazio that was losing €83 million a year and had debts of €550 million. Today I don’t know if I would be able to do what I did years ago.

I am not the owner of Lazio but the custodian of this passion. The accounts must come before everything, before success, at any cost.

Step Forward in Contract Renewal Talks Between Lazio & Luiz Felipe

Lotito was awarded the Golden Lion award at the International Grand Prix of Venice event yesterday, hosted at the Hall of Honour of the Veneto Region Palace.

The Lazio president is still working on finding a buyer for Salernitana, as he is not allowed to own two professional clubs in the same division. The deadline for this is the end of the month, meaning that he has to work fast to iron out a deal.

Should Lotito fail to find a buyer for Salernitana, they risk being excluded from Serie A in the new year.
