Coach Conceicao: “Porto vs Lazio Is More of a Champions League Game”

Porto coach Sergio Conceicao thinks that the upcoming Europa League playoff against Lazio will be incredibly tough.

Speaking to Portuguese media outlet SapoDesporto (via LazioNews24) recently, the 47-year-old Portuguese coach looked ahead to the upcoming playoff match against the Biancocelesti.

If you ask most football fans, FC Porto vs Lazio is more of a Champions League game than a Europa League game.

Lazio are a strong team in Italy and have had good campaigns in the Champions League. It is another European challenge where we want to be at a good level against a great team.

We want to give a demonstration of our strength and what we are as a club.

Lazio will face Porto in a two-legged playoff match in February to decide which team will qualify for the Round of 16 of the Europa League.

The first match will take place on 17th February in Portugal, with the return leg coming a week later on 24th February in Rome.

The Biancocelesti finished second of Group E behind Turkish side Galatasaray, a decent showing considering that Olympique Marseille and Lokomotiv Moscow were both also in their group.

Porto finished third in Group B of the Champions League this season, two points behind second place Atletico Madrid. They also had Liverpool and AC Milan in their group, so a third place finish is very respectable.
