Lazio started the match well, having most of the ball but struggling to break down a well-drilled Genoa side.

The Roman club’s first real chance came in the 17th minute thanks to Pedro, with his shot being intercepted by Vanheusden.

Lazio went into the break with a comfortable 1-0 lead, although it was clear that the team should have extended their advantage in the first 45 minutes.
