Coach Sarri: “First Time in a Long Time That Lazio Have Won Without Immobile”

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri was satisfied with the team’s performance in last night’s 3-1 win over Genoa.

Speaking first in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN (via LazioNews24) after the game, the 62-year-old Italian coach first commented on the result against the Rossoblu yesterday.

Sorry for the goal we conceded, it wasn’t there, I think it’s the first time in a long time that Lazio have won without Immobile.

The Lazio coach touched on the team’s poor performances after Europa League matches.

I don’t see all this nervousness, sometimes we are drained.

We have a two-point average at 0.6. The Europa League is punishing from this point of view.

Sarri highlighted how the team did well predicting Genoa’s movements last night.

They read the opponent’s movements well. They did a good job.

When we are active these movements always succeed, when we are drained like after the Europa League we always arrive late.

He commented on the strengths of Pedro and Mattia Zaccagni, both of whom scored against the Rossoblu.

He transmits the enthusiasm to play, he doesn’t have to prove anything.

Zaccagni’s growth is encouraging.

The 62-year-old Italian coach noted the usage of Felipe Anderson in the false nine role.

A player who has the on and off button. When he has the on button he can play in any role in any team, the important thing is to limit the off periods.

A guy so sensitive that sometimes you are afraid to intervene.

Sarri then discussed the match in an interview with Lazio Style Radio.

I’m satisfied because we led the match well, with good dribbling, on a pitch that wasn’t easy, and made it easy.

It’s a shame about the goal we conceded at the end, because certain situations shouldn’t happen.

He was satisfied with the performance of Felipe Anderson.

Felipe was alive today, even if in a role that isn’t his naturally.

I’ve seen him do well in training over the last few days so he can play that role anyway, because when he has the button pressed on he has rare quality.

The Lazio coach was also happy with Zaccagni’s performance.

Zaccagni had a good game. He is growing a lot.

He can become an important player for us, also because he gives balance and has defensive qualities.

He was also impressed with the work of Luis Alberto in the match.

He’s a quality player. He’d just come back from ten difficult days with a muscle problem and that’s why I decided to use him in the final half-hour.

The former Napoli coach touched on Ciro Immobile and the team’s result without him.

Lazio won without him after a long time. We’re sorry for him because he’s fundamental for us.

But we’re pleased because we showed we can make up for his absence.

Sarri discussed Lazio’s attacking trident.

They had to start in those positions and not give points of reference.

Then they were reversed, with Pedro playing in the centre many times.

Sarri also discussed the work of Lazio’s forwards when speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference.

The three forwards played well today. I saw Felipe Anderson growing in a role that is not his. He was fundamental on the first goal. We made a difficult game easy.

It’s not easy to lead the game on a pitch like this, where you always need an extra touch. The Europa League has marked our path so far, this also explains our difference in points between home and away.

He touched on the team’s position in the Serie A table.

The European competition is a competition that penalises us a lot, since it is difficult to postpone the league games to Monday.

Unfortunately we’re missing a few points, but that’s a limitation of ours because we’ve been too mentally drained at times.

Finally, Sarri spoke about the physical conditions of stars Luis Alberto and Immobile.

He’s not missing anything, he’s getting used to doing different things. Today he came from days in which he didn’t train much, the ideal solution today was to bring him into the game.

He’s playing well defensively and his touch on the third goal was a real footballer’s touch. As far as Immobile’s recovery is concerned, we’ll see in the next few days.
