Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto is regaining coach Maurizio Sarri’s trust after his strong performance against Genoa.

As reported by Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 29-year-old Spanish midfielder has struggled to fully convince the 62-year-old Italian coach so far this season, only starting in 12 of his 17 Serie A appearances this campaign.

Luis Alberto’s impressive performance in Lazio’s 3-1 win over Genoa on Friday may change Sarri’s mind, however. The Spaniard was brought on in the 63rd minute of the match and managed to provide two key assists in his 27 minutes on the pitch, proving a point to the coach.

Sarri appreciates Luis Alberto’s technical qualities but has concerns about his mentality and work rate. Regardless, the former Liverpool man is now hoping to start in Lazio’s final game of the season against Venezia next week.

The 29-year-old Luis Alberto, who is contracted to Lazio until 2025, has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1380 minutes. In that time, he has scored two goals and provided six assists.
