Lazio have set their sights on Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret but are facing competition from Fiorentina.

As reported by Italian newspaper La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the Biancocelesti are searching for a new shot stopper to replace current number one Thomas Strakosha, whose contract expires with the club next year in 2022.

Lazio have been linked with Chelsea’s Kepa in recent months but now they’ve identified their top alternative, the 24-year-old Meret.

The Napoli goalkeeper is appreciated by coach Maurizio Sarri and for now the player is resisting president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ attempts to get him to sign a contract renewal. His current deal expires in 2023. Fiorentina are also keen, looking for a replacement for Bartlomiej Dragowski, who is wanted by Inter.

The 24-year-old Meret, who signed for Napoli in 2019 from Udinese, has only made seven appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 630 minutes. In that time, he has conceded nine goals and helped the side keep two clean sheets.
