Immobile Hoping to Return in Time for Lazio’s First Game of 2022 Against Empoli

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile is hoping to return in time for the first match after the Christmas break.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 31-year-old Italian striker will miss this afternoon’s match against Venezia after testing positive for COVID in the last few days.

Immobile also missed Lazio’s 3-1 win over Genoa on Friday and the player is itching to get back to the action, but there is still a long way to go. The 31-year-old is aiming to return in time for the first match of 2022 against Empoli, scheduled for 6th January.

The Lazio talisman will undergo more COVID tests between 27th and 30th December, hoping that these return negative so he can return to training to try and regain his fitness ahead of the Empoli clash.

Coach Maurizio Sarri will deploy Brazilian winger Felipe Anderson in Immobile’s place against Venezia today, using him as a false nine with Mattia Zaccagni and Pedro on the wings.
