Lazio Could Sign Outbound Cagliari Defender Godin on Low Cost Deal

Lazio could look to sign departing Cagliari defender Diego Godin on a low-cost deal next month.

As reported by Italian newspaper Tuttosport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the Roman club are looking to strengthen their defence in next month’s transfer window and have been following the 35-year-old Uruguayan centre back’s situation with the Sardinian side closely.

Godin seems set to leave Cagliari next month following a falling out with the squad and management, so Lazio could sign the veteran defender on a low-cost deal.

Sporting director Igli Tare closely followed the 35-year-old Uruguayan centre back in 2018 before his departure from Atletico Madrid, so the Biancocelesti may decide to pull the trigger on a deal in next month’s window.

The 35-year-old Godin, who joined Cagliari in September 2020 on a free transfer from Inter, has made 11 Serie A appearances this season, for a total of 818 minutes. In that time, he has provided one assist but missed seven matches due to various injuries.
