La Liga side Alaves have set their sights on redundant Lazio midfielder Gonzalo Escalante.
As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 28-year-old Argentinian midfielder is part of the Biancocelesti’s registered 25-man squad this season but has barely featured, only playing eight minutes in the season opener against Empoli.

It seems likely that Escalante will leave Lazio in next month’s transfer window and a return to Spain could be on the cards, with Alaves interested in acquiring him.

Everything seems to be linked to the possible arrival of coach José Luis Mendilibar, who worked with the player back at Eibar. Should the 60-year-old Spaniard take charge of Alaves then a deal could be completed swiftly.
Escalante, who is contracted to Lazio until 2024, was signed on a free transfer last year, but he never particularly impressed whilst playing under then-coach Simone Inzaghi, and clearly he hasn’t done enough to impress Maurizio Sarri this season either.
