Cagliari Offer Veteran Godin to Lazio in Exchange for Expiring Defender Patric

Cagliari have offered to send Diego Godin to Lazio in exchange for Spanish defender Patric.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti are looking for defensive reinforcements in next month’s transfer window and have recently been linked with the Uruguayan veteran, who is destined to leave the Sardinian side in next month’s transfer window.

Cagliari are looking to find a new home for Godin and have offered to send him to Lazio in exchange for the 28-year-old Patric. The 35-year-old Uruguayan centre back is still a strong player, despite his age, but his high wages could prove problematic.

Patric, whose contract expires with Lazio next summer, has only made 11 appearances across all competitions this season under coach Maurizio Sarri, being more of an emergency option in defence.

Whilst Sarri is a fan of Patric’s tactical flexibility, the idea of having an experienced veteran like Godin in the squad may prove convincing, especially considering Francesco Acerbi’s slow adaption to the tactical system.
