Ex-Lazio Coach Delio Rossi: “If You Believe In Sarri You Have to Follow Him to the End”

during the Serie A match between UC Sampdoria and S.S. Lazio at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on December 22, 2012 in Genoa, Italy.

Former coach Delio Rossi suggested that this year would be one of transition for both Lazio and Roma.

Speaking in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb yesterday, the 61-year-old Italian discussed the Biancocelesti’s growth this season under coach Maurizio Sarri and how it’ll be a year of change.

The feeling is that the team does not have the characteristics to play in a certain way. If you can’t choose in the end you have to adapt. Let’s say that in Lazio there are excellent players like Acerbi, Milinkovic-Savic, Immobile, Lazzari, Luis Alberto.

But two of these excellent players don’t play and other players are used who may be technically inferior but are considered more functional for the game.

In the end I think it will be a year of transition for Lazio and Roma. And if you believe in Sarri you have to follow him to the end, even at the cost of losing a few players.

Ex-Roma Midfielder Nainggolan: “The Lazio Fans Begged Me Not to Play the Derby”

He commented on the Lazio’s work in the transfer market and how president Claudio Lotito won’t sell his players for a reduced price.

Lotito wants players who leave to be sold for what he wants. For Milinkovic-Savic, if he wants €100 million he won’t give him away for €10 million.

For Luis Alberto it’s not easy to find someone who will give you €50 million. The extension of Sarri’s contract, on the other hand, is the signal that sends both externally and internally about the desire to bet heavily on him.

Lazio currently sit 8th in the Serie A table after the first half of the season, seven points behind 4th place Atalanta and one point behind intercity rivals Roma, who are in 6th.

The Biancocelesti’s first game of the new year is against Empoli on 6th January before they face Inter three days later on 9th January. The other matches that the team will play in January are against Salernitana on the 15th, Udinese in the Coppa Italia on the 18th and Atalanta on the 22nd.
