Acerbi in Doubt for Lazio’s First Game of 2022 Against Empoli Following Injury

Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi is in doubt for the first game of 2022 against Empoli.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 33-year-old Italian defender suffered an injury in the 3-1 win over Venezia before the Christmas break and now there’s a chance that he’ll miss the next game against Empoli on 6th January.

Recent tests showed that Acerbi suffered a small strain to his left thigh in the win over Venezia and he is currently resting in order to try and be fit for the first match of 2022 against Empoli.

It’s more likely that the 33-year-old Italian defender will return in time for Lazio’s away trip to Inter on 9th January.

The 33-year-old Acerbi, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2025, has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2146 minutes. In that time, he has scored three goals and provided two assists.
