Lazio Midfielder Zaccagni Discusses His Strongest Teammate & Career Highlights

Lazio midfielder Mattia Zaccagni recounted his life and career, his favourite match and his passion for football.

Speaking in an interview with Italian magazine Lazio Style 1900 Magazine (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 26-year-old Italian midfielder first touched on who gave him his passion for playing football.

My father! Since I was a child I watched matches of any existing league, he passed on this passion to me. He also played and football is something that binds us so much.

The Lazio midfielder commented on what his parents do for a living.

We still have a hotel in Bellaria, which my family runs. When I left home I was 18 years old, it was hard but also an important formative experience.

He revealed which player was his idol when he was a child.

Alessandro Del Piero, he has always been my idol.

Zaccagni spoke about his mindset when looking at his career.

I have always given my all in football, I knew that sooner or later satisfaction would come!

With commitment, dedication and a bit of luck you can get to the top.

He revealed what he spent his first pay cheque on.

If I remember correctly, I bought a new iPhone.

The 26-year-old Italian midfielder noted which is the most important shirt he’s received from an opponent.

Two years ago, in a Verona-Juventus match, I managed to get Cristiano Ronaldo’s jersey, which I also got signed.

The Lazio midfielder remembered his favourite match of his career.

Fortunately, there are many that I remember well.

One of them is the final of the Verona-Cittadella play-off, where I scored and we won promotion to Serie A.

He touched on how many messages he receives from fans playing fantasy football.

So many, far too many!

Zaccagni commented on which player is the strongest teammate that he’s played with.

I think I met him this year, Pedro!

He did not place too much importance on social media.

A normal relationship, I try to give everything the right importance.

Zaccagni discussed whether he preferred the cities of Verona or Rome.

They are two completely different cities, in Verona I left my heart, it’s a city that raised me in everything!

I think Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

He wasn’t sure what he’ll do after retiring yet.

Definitely a long journey! In terms of work and football, I’m not sure yet.

Finally, Zaccagni discussed his highlights and pride at his work.

Becoming a Serie A player is very difficult, in addition to talent and quality you must also have a lot of luck, so I’m proud of the path I’ve taken and I must also thank all the people who have allowed me to do all this.

What would I say to a kid who wants to play? Simple. To have fun, always put effort into everything he does and dream.
