Lazio in Talks With Liverpool for Origi in Search for Backup Striker

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has opened talks with Liverpool for Belgian forward Divock Origi.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Tempo (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti are working on signing the 26-year-old Belgian forward, whose contract expires with the Reds at the end of this season.

Tare has been in contact with Origi’s entourage for several days now, with Liverpool willing to sell the Belgian this month in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer at the end of June.

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has given his approval for a deal for Origi, appreciating his tactical flexibility; the 26-year-old can play in both the centre of the front three as well as on the wings.

In order to close out the deal, however, the Biancocelesti will have to re-home Vedat Muriqi, who currently has received no offers for a move.

The 26-year-old Origi, who joined Liverpool in 2014, has made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 393 minutes. In that time, he has scored five goals and provided two assists
