Inter Coach Inzaghi: “Playing Against Lazio Is Difficult for Me”

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi understood the importance of last night’s 2-1 win over Lazio.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN (via LazioNews24) after the match, the Nerazzurri coach reacted to the win over the Biancocelesti.

We wanted to come back with a win even if it wasn’t easy. They have quality and they know how to play well on the pitch.

Physically they were on the ball but we deserved to win, as we made a great comeback. We have a great game on Wednesday, a final to play in our stadium in the best possible way.

The Inter coach touched on his joy at working with the Nerazzurri defenders.

I’m lucky to have important players, D’Ambrosio scored from the back, Dimarco too.

We have to continue like this because there is no time to stop waiting, we have seen the contenders win so we have to continue to win.

Inzaghi revealed what his greatest pride is following his first six months in Milan.

My greatest pride is to see the participation of everyone. Seeing Vidal with Torino and Gaglia among the best today makes me proud, because it means that everyone is on the ball even if they don’t play as much as the others.

He was happy with the performances of Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez.

It’s great news. He played a great game along with Sanchez. They needed to come back in the best possible way so he did very well too.

The former Lazio coach discussed the pressure from the title race this season.

On 20th October we were seven points behind and I felt less pressure. It’s obvious that now others think we’re favourites, but it’s thanks to the guys who have won eight in a row.

It’s normal that with a path like this the others say so, but for us it must be a stimulus.

He spoke highly of forward Alexis Sanchez.

I arrived here and I didn’t have him for a month and a half. When he settled down he came onto the pitch every training session trying to convince me.

He always wants to do everything at his best and that’s a big advantage for us. Luckily I have four forwards who are all very strong and they know that I have to make choices every game.

But right now he’s a great asset.

Finally, Inzaghi discussed his decision to not celebrate the win following the final whistle.

Playing against Lazio is difficult for me, you know what it means. They’ve been my life, they’ve raised me and made me a man.

It’s not a victory like the others, but for my path and for all that Inter is giving me, it’s a victory I wanted with all my strength.

Inter’s win means that they are still top of the Serie A table, sitting on 49 points. They have a one point lead over second place AC Milan but they have a game in hand, as their match against Bologna last week was called off due to a COVID outbreak in the Rossoblu squad.
