Lazio failed to do the double over league leaders Inter after losing 2-1 to Simone Inzaghi’s side last night.
The Nerazzurri have only lost one game domestically this season, against the Biancocelesti back in October, but Maurizio Sarri’s side were unable to repeat this result yesterday, with goals from Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar securing the three points for the home side.
Below are the two squads in Inter’s 2-1 win over Lazio:
- Inter (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni; Denzel Dumfries (77’ Matteo Darmian), Nicolo Barella (82’ Arturo Vidal), Marcelo Brozovic, Roberto Gagliardini, Ivan Perisic (82’ Federico Dimarco); Alexis Sanchez (73’ Joaquin Correa), Lautaro Martinez (73’ Edin Dzeko).
- Lazio (4-3-3): Thomas Strakosha; Elseid Hysaj (80′ Manuel Lazzari), Luiz Felipe, Stefan Radu, Adam Marusic; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Danilo Cataldi (68′ Lucas Leiva), Toma Basic (68′ Luis Alberto); Felipe Anderson (60′ Mattia Zaccagni), Ciro Immobile, Pedro.
Inter started the match on the front foot and had an early chance when a Perisic header went just wide of the post after 15 minutes.
Two minutes later and Lautaro Martinez put the Nerazzurri ahead, but the goal was chalked off in a contentious offside call, with the VAR images failing to convince many fans.
Strakosha made a great save in the 28th minute to deny Lautaro, but unfortunately Inter still took the lead only two minutes later, with Bastoni’s thunderous shot flying past the Albanian shot stopper.
Lazio responded well, however, and a Cataldi long ball was perfectly met by Immobile, who beat Handanovic to square things up at 1-1 in the 35th minute.
It was an even game going into the half time break, although Inter seemingly had more momentum behind them.
The Biancocelesti had a good chance in the 53rd minute following a strong counter attack, but Milinkovic-Savic’s shot left a little to be desired.
The Roman club survived an onslaught by Inter and in the 67th minute their defence finally slipped, with a Skriniar heading beating Strakosha to make it 2-1.
Lazio failed to get back into the match and despite their best efforts, an equaliser never arrived. Inzaghi’s side held on to secure all three points at the San Siro.
