Lazio Midfielder Milinkovic-Savic on Loss to Inter: “We Deserved a Draw at Least”

Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic thought that the team deserved more in their 2-1 loss to Inter last night.

Speaking first in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Lazio Style Radio (via LazioNews24) after the match, the 26-year-old Serbian midfielder reacted to the loss to the Nerazzurri.

It’s a shame because we deserved a draw at least. We had our chances. But now we have to think about the next game.

The Lazio midfielder touched on the team’s growth in recent weeks.

Playing three days ago helped us. That’s why we were in good shape in the second half.

We’re growing and we’re starting to do what the coach wants us to do.

Milinkovic-Savic spoke about some of his chances in the match.

It was a good cross, but I wasn’t in a good position so I took it badly. I didn’t get a good header at the end either.

Maybe it could have been a draw. We could have taken a point.

He commented on the team’s strong attitude and work rate in the game.

In the second half they sat high and every ball we stole we had space, but we were deep. We tried to play the game the coach asked us to play.

I can say that we played a good game. Today we leave the pitch with our heads held high. We mustn’t lose heart.

Milinkovic-Savic also analysed the loss to Inter when speaking to DAZN.

We played a good game. We deserved a draw in my opinion so we can leave the pitch with our heads held high. I think we moved the ball a lot better from the back in recent games and that can be a positive point.

We can certainly improve a lot more, but in my opinion we created a lot of chances with passes from the back.

The 26-year-old Milinkovic-Savic, who is contracted to Lazio until 2024, has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1870 minutes. In that time, he has scored seven goals and provided seven assists.

Lazio’s next match is against bottom place Salernitana on 15th January, a game that they cannot afford to drop points in as they fight for a European spot.
