Veteran Defender Radu Has Fought His Way Back Into Sarri’s Lazio Squad

Stefan Radu has seemingly fought his way back into Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri’s good books.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, it was a tough start to the season for the 35-year-old Romanian defender, with his first appearance of the campaign coming at the end of October in the 4-1 loss to Hellas Verona.

Radu remained professional, however, and made three more appearances before Christmas, including a start in Lazio’s 3-1 win over Venezia. He performed well in that match, being a reliable replacement for Elseid Hysaj.

The Romanian centre back also started in the 2-1 loss to Inter on the weekend and he performed well, recovering three balls and completing 36 passes.

Radu has made 417 appearances for Lazio since his arrival in July 2008, making him the club’s all-time appearance holder. His contract expires with the Biancocelesti at the end of the season and it’s unlikely that he’ll be offered a renewal.
