Lazio star Ciro Immobile doesn’t feel like he needs to prove himself following the 3-0 win over Salernitana yesterday.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after the game, the 31-year-old Italian striker first analysed the win over the Salerno side.
A beautiful and important victory. I’d like to thank the team for always putting me in a position to do well.
We played a careful, precise game, without mistakes and we brought home the three points we needed.
The Lazio talisman then commented on his qualities and how he doesn’t feel the need to prove himself to anyone following questions about his role in the Italian national team.
I’m European champion. My stats speak for themselves. I don’t need to answer on television or on social networks. I don’t go after these things.
The scoreboard says I scored two goals at the European Championship, 140 in Serie A with Lazio, I won the European Championship, the Golden Boot, I won the goalscorer’s league three times. These things speak for themselves, there’s no need to make a fuss.
Immobile touched on the qualities of yesterday’s opposition Salernitana.
They were in difficulty because of the absences. I understand that, last year we played Bruges and there were only 12 of us.
They were well placed on the pitch anyway and it was a game that could have been difficult if I didn’t enter the pitch with the right mentality.
Finally, Immobile discussed his reaction to Lorenzo Insigne’s move to Toronto at the end of this season.
I wished him well. It’s a new adventure for him and his family. It will be nice for him to face a new league.
He told me he is aiming to finish well with Napoli.
The 31-year-old Immobile, who is contracted to Lazio until 2026, has made 23 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1889 minutes. In that time, he has scored 18 goals and provided two assists. He has only failed to score in five Serie A matches this campaign.
