Sarri Calls Lazio Star Milinkovic-Savic “One of the Best” That He’s Worked With

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri was in high spirits following the win over Salernitana, laying praise on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in particular.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN (via LazioNews24) after the game, the 63-year-old Italian coach first discussed the 26-year-old Serbian midfielder.

I’ve coached great midfielders, like Zielinski and Hamsik, and he’s one of the best. He really is a complete player with great quality.

He also has great determination. And above all he’s improving in some aspects.

Sarri highlighted Lazio’s growth in consistency in recent weeks.

We’re making progress. In the last five games we’ve picked up ten points. Some signs of consistency are coming through. Even against Inter we did fairly well. Let’s hope this isn’t a fluke, especially from a performance point of view.

The team is training well, but mentally they’re not always at the right point. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of mental energy in the Europa League and that penalised us a lot. Without that we’d have a different spot in the league table.

He gave his thoughts on full back Manuel Lazzari, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Rome.

He hasn’t managed to find consistency. He’s better at attacking than defending. The team has limitations and so he’s found little space. But he definitely has quality.

He made a brief comment on the now-infamous liquidity index, which is blocking Lazio from making any signings until players are sold first.

I’m starting to study it. But I don’t understand why there are teams in debt, even with a liquidity index that is even.

Finally, Sarri discussed the transfer market and what the current situation is.

I don’t know what will happen. The club knows what we need. We need to be ready for next year.

Lazio currently sit 6th in the Serie A table after 22 games, six points behind 4th place Atalanta, who have two games in hand. Their next match is a Coppa Italia Round of 16 clash against Udinese on Tuesday, before they host Atalanta next weekend.
