A serious issue may stop Lazio from signing Mainz forward Jonathan Burkardt in this month’s transfer window.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 21-year-old German forward is the Biancocelesti’s number one transfer target once unneeded Kosovan forward Vedat Muriqi is sent away to CSKA Moscow, and that deal is nearly fully finalised.

Whilst Burkardt is Lazio’s main target, they may not be able to sign the 21-year-old this month, with Mainz not interested in selling the player.

Before yesterday’s match against Bochum, sporting director Martin Schmidt publicly declared that the German forward is not for sale, which could totally kill off Lazio’s interest in the player.

The 21-year-old Burkardt, who is contracted to Mainz until 2024, has made 21 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1611 minutes. In that time, he has scored 10 goals and provided four assists.
