Lazio president Claudio Lotito is determined to sign Hellas Verona defender Nicolo Casale this month.

Hellas Verona president Maurizio Setti is reluctant to sell Casale until the summer but Lotito is determined to convince him of a January transfer, desperate to strengthen the Lazio defence this month in order to keep his promise to coach Maurizio Sarri.

Lazio’s offer for Casale is a €5 million loan deal with an obligation to buy clause attached. Updates are expected in the coming days, with a little over a week left in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old Casale, who is contracted to the Gialloblu until 2026, has made 22 Serie A appearances so far this season, for a total of 1515 minutes. In that time, he has provided one assist.
