Denis Vavro has revealed his unhappiness at Lazio following his return to FC Copenhagen.
Speaking in an interview with Slovakian media outlet Sport24.sk yesterday, the 25-year-old centre-back discussed his time in Rome with the Biancocelesti and expressed his disappointment.
I don’t regret it. I tried and found out what the Italian league is like. Maybe if I had gone somewhere else, we could be talking about a different club than Copenhagen today.
You have to face it. It’s like being disappointed at work. I was disappointed by Lazio. Not only me, my friends, family and agent.
Vavro suggested that he may have moved to Serie A a season early.
Maybe it was hasty, I’m not saying no. Maybe if I had waited another year, it would have been different. You never know. I tried it and it didn’t work at all.
Now I’m starting from the beginning. I’m 26 and that’s an age you can still build on. I’m neither young nor old.
Finally, Vavro discussed another player who made a similar mistake to him but how things were different due to the mindset of a coach.
Milan Škriniar made the same mistake. The first season in Italy was not easy for him and he wanted to come back. But then he had a chance and he didn’t let it go and grabbed it. On the contrary, I didn’t get the chance.
I had one game and no more. I don’t count the Europa League. So it’s a question of whether the coach gives a player a chance. A player can do anything to play. However, if the coach doesn’t give him a chance, he can do whatever he wants.
Lazio paid FC Copenhagen €10.5 million for Vavro back in the summer of 2019 and it was yet another mistake by sporting director Igli Tare, with the investment not paying off in the slightest.
Vavro failed to convince coach Simone Inzaghi upon his arrival and quickly found himself on the sidelines of the project in Rome. The Slovakian centre back did little to win over Inzaghi’s successor Maurizio Sarri, drawing his time in Rome to a close.
