Official: Jony Joins Sporting Gijon on Loan From Lazio

Sporting Gijon have officially signed Spanish winger Jony on loan from Lazio.

As announced by Sporting Gijon earlier today, the 30-year-old Spaniard has joined the second division side on a six-month loan deal. It is likely that a buy option was attached, although this has not been confirmed.

Jony never particularly settled following his signing for Lazio in 2019 on a free transfer. In his first season, the Spaniard made 32 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 1659 minutes. In that time, he provided four assists, but failed to particularly convinced coach Simone Inzaghi.

He was loaned out to CA Osasuna in his second season at Lazio, providing three assists in 24 appearances in Spain. He returned to Rome last summer, but failed to convince coach Maurizio Sarri in the pre-season training camp, so he was left out of the project.

Jony will be hoping for regular playing time as he looks he relaunch his career following a disappointing period in Rome.
