Milan Storm to Routine 4-0 Win Over Lazio in Coppa Italia Quarter-Finals

Lazio were overwhelmed by an electric Milan side, losing 4-0 in last night’s Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

The Biancocelesti were clearly on the ropes in the first half and Maurizio Sarri’s side found themselves 3-0 down going into the half-time break, with the Rossoneri firmly in the driving seat. The team tried to react in the second half, but could do little with star striker Ciro Immobile, who went off injured.

Below are the two squads in Lazio’s 4-0 loss to Milan:

  • Milan (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria (76′ Tomori), Kalulu, Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Kessié, Tonali (45′ Bennacer); Messias (60′ Saelemaekers ), Brahim Diaz, Leao (76′ Maldini); Giroud (60′ Rebić).
  • Lazio (4-3-3): Reina; Hysaj (61′ Lazzari), Luiz Felipe, Patric, Marusic; Milinkovic, Cataldi (50′ Leiva), Basic (50′ Luis Alberto); Felipe Anderson (50′ Pedro), Immobile (68′ Raul Moro), Zaccagni.

Milan started the match on the front foot and they had the first real chance of the match after 11 minutes, although Reina’s save was enough to deny Kessie on this occasion.

In the 24th minute, the Rossoneri broke the deadlock, with a beautiful long ball by Romagnoli finding a sprinting Leao, who took the ball in his stride before striking it past Reina, making it 1-0.

In the 42nd minute, things went from bad to worse as Milan found their second goal of the match, which came from a counter attack following a mistake by Basic in the midfield. At the end of the move, Leao played the ball to Giroud, who didn’t miss as he made it 2-0.

Just before half time, the Milanese side scored their third, with Giroud netting his brace to make it 3-0 following a bad mistake by Marusic.

Lazio tried to fight back early into the second half, with both Felipe Anderson and Pedro trying their hardest to try and close the deficit. Their attempts, unfortunately, ultimately proved fruitless.

In the 62nd minute, Immobile went down after accidentally kicking Kalulu when trying to shoot; he was taken off two minutes later limping, a worrying sign for Sarri.

The Biancocelesti were lost after this, and it’s no surprise that Milan made it 4-0 in the 79th minute, when Kessie took advantage of a loose ball to fire home his first of the match.
