Lazio defender Luiz Felipe is close to agreeing to a move to Spanish side Real Betis ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

As reported by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi yesterday, the 24-year-old Brazilian defender will not renew his contract with the Biancocelesti, having rejected president Claudio Lotito’s latest salary offer of €2 million net per season.

Lazio did not want to offer him a more valuable contract, frustrated with his inconsistent performances and drops in focus. Real Betis are now in pole position in the race to pick up Luiz Felipe, offering him a salary of €3.2 million net per season plus add-ons on a four-year deal.

Inter, who are also keen to acquire the Brazilian defender, have been overtaken in the race; their offer was €2.7 million net per season plus €800,000 in add-ons.

The Biancocelesti are hoping to replace Luiz Felipe with Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli, whose contract expires with the Rossoneri at the end of the season.
