Lazio Midfielder Luis Alberto: “I Missed So Many Chances, I’m Sorry”

Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto expressed his regret at the elimination from the Europa League after last night’s 2-2 draw with Porto.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia (via LazioNews24) after the match, the 29-year-old Spanish midfielder first reacted to the draw with Porto and commented on the number of chances that he missed throughout the match.

I think it’s the game in Porto that we deserved more here. I missed so many chances, we’re out and I’m sorry. There was a lot of desire to go forward but we didn’t manage it.

When we play like this we can compete with any team, today I’m very p*ssed off with myself because I missed so many chances. I’m sorry I didn’t give the fans the joy of the game.

Luis Alberto looked ahead to Lazio’s upcoming match against Napoli, scheduled for Sunday evening.

Sunday’s match is a very important one, we’ll also get Zaccagni back. With the injuries of the last two-three weeks it wasn’t easy, but we look ahead and try to do the best we can.

The Spanish midfielder briefly touched on his future.

I feel more serene and calm, I’ve always said that we are a family and we must stay together for these three months and do well because there is a long way to go before the end of the season.

Finally, Luis Alberto discussed the sense of unity amongst the squad this season.

We have been attacked many times because we have done two or three bad performances, now we are a united team that can also be behind but fight until the end.

If we had scored the second goal two or three minutes earlier we would be playing extra time at this point.

The 29-year-old Luis Alberto, who is contracted to Lazio until 2025, has made 33 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2176 minutes. In that time, he’s scored three goals and provided eight assists.

The Spaniard has had a rocky relationship with coach Maurizio Sarri this season but things have finally started to settle between the pair.
