Lazio Open Talks to Renew Strakosha’s Contract but Sarri Doesn’t Agree

Lazio are hoping to avoid losing Thomas Strakosha on a free transfer but coach Maurizio Sarri still wants a new number one.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti are concerned that the Albanian shot stopper will join the list of players leaving the club for free at the end of this season, alongside others like Luiz Felipe and Patric.

Sporting director Igli Tare has been in contact with Strakosha’s entourage in recent weeks to try and find a deal, but Lazio may need to convince Sarri too. The 63-year-old Italian coach wants a new number one regardless, who is more suited to his tactical system and game plan.

The 26-year-old Strakosha, who joined Lazio in the summer of 2012, has made 20 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1800 minutes. In that time, he’s conceded 20 goals and kept eight clean sheets.
