Sarri Still Pushing for Lazio to Sign Chelsea’s Kepa but Tare Has Other Ideas

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is still pushing to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga but sporting director Igli Tare has other ideas.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 63-year-old Italian coach has been a real fan of the Spanish shot stopper since their time together in West London, despite Kepa’s infamous refusal to be substituted off in the Carabao Cup final.

Lazio May Cash In on Milinkovic-Savic Amid Interest From PSG, Inter, Juventus & Manchester United

Tare would prefer to renew Thomas Strakosha‘s contract with Lazio and the Albanian is reportedly open to doing so, but only if he is guaranteed the starting spot. Sarri is unconvinced by this, despite restoring the player’s starting status in the squad over Pepe Reina. He would prefer to start fresh with a new goalkeeper such as Chelsea’s Kepa.

Pedro’s Physical Condition Is Lazio’s Main Concern Ahead of Cagliari Clash

The main issue is the Spanish goalkeeper’s exorbitant salary of around €7 million net per season. Therefore, he could only be brought to Rome on a loan deal where Chelsea would pay at least half of his wages.

For this reason, compromises are also being examined, such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Sergio Rico and Atalanta youngster Marco Carnesecchi. Pierluigi Gollini is no longer an option, being vetoed by Sarri.
