Francesco Acerbi’s return may have a significant impact on Lazio’s defensive stability.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera (via LazioNews24) earlier today, almost two months have passed since the 34-year-old Italian defender made his last start for the Biancocelesti, and in that time the team have found some defensive consistency.

With Acerbi present, Lazio conceded a goal every 48 minutes on average. With the Italian defender absent, that number dropped to 88 minutes on average per goal conceded, a significant difference.

The 34-year-old Italian defender has other issues as well; a large section of the fans have still not forgiven him following their falling out before Christmas, when the player did a ‘shh’ celebration in response to the criticisms he had been receiving.

The fans did not accept his apology and there’s a genuine chance that Acerbi will leave Lazio at the end of this season, with the club open to offers of around €5 million.
