Ex-Lazio Captain Pino Wilson Passes Away Aged 76

Former Lazio captain Giuseppe ‘Pino’ Wilson has sadly passed away at the age of 76 today.

As confirmed by Lazio earlier today, the captain of the Biancocelesti’s 1973/74 title-winning side has passed away after suffering a stroke during the night. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by family.

Wilson played a key role in the Lazio side that won their first-ever Scudetto in the 1973/74 season, being a noted figure in the squad alongside striker Giorgio Chinaglia.

The former captain spent 11 years of his career with the Biancocelesti, from 1969 to 1980. During that time, he made 296 league appearances, earning a call-up to the 1974 World Cup with Italy for his strong performances.

After retiring, Wilson remained a Lazio fan and was a pundit for Italian state broadcaster RAI, consistently commenting on the Biancocelesti’s progress over the years. He was known for being a fan of previous coach Simone Inzaghi and his work in Rome.

Below are some of the many reactions that were seen around Twitter, paying tribute to the former Lazio captain.
