Three of Lazio’s veteran players have proved key in the team’s turn around in 2022.
Since the start of the year, Maurizio Sarri’s side have won four of their nine league outings, drawing three times and losing only twice. The team are now fired up in the race for European qualification and with 10 games left they have a genuine chance of hitting that target.
As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Pedro, Lucas Leiva and Stefan Radu have been decisive for Sarri during Lazio’s recent upswing in form, playing key roles as both results and performances have improved.
The 34-year-old Spanish winger has been a focal point since his arrival last summer. He immediately earnt a starting spot and has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this season.
Radu’s initial issues were tactical; Sarri believed that he could only play as a centre-back, but he’s since discovered that the Romanian veteran can still give a lot as a full back as well.
Both Leiva and Radu’s contracts expire with the club at the end of the season. The Romanian will certainly receive a one-year renewal and the same could now be offered to the former Liverpool man as well.
