Stats Highlight Lazio’s Incredible Defensive Performances in 2022

After a shaky start, Lazio have finally managed to find defensive consistency, starting 2022 in rock solid fashion.

The Biancocelesti struggled in the first half of the season, only keeping two clean sheets in their opening 19 Serie A games. It was clear that the defence had issues adapting to Maurizio Sarri’s new system and the four-man defence proved initially difficult.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), in the first nine Serie A games of this year Lazio have managed to keep five clean sheets, conceding only eight goals. In Europe’s top five leagues only Real Sociedad has done better, keeping six clean sheets in total.

Interestingly, Francesco Acerbi was absent for a large part of this run, missing six of the last nine games due to a hamstring injury.

Lazio are set for an overhaul in the defence in the summer, with Patric and Luiz Felipe both set to leave the club on free transfers. There’s also a genuine chance that Acerbi will depart.
