Strakosha Calls Sarri’s Lazio “One of the Most Mature” in Recent Years

Thomas Strakosha called this Lazio squad ‘one of the most mature’ that he’s been a part of.

The 26-year-old Albanian shot stopper has regained his starting spot in Rome under Maurizio Sarri this season, fighting back with strong performances in the Europa League to justify a return in Serie A. His contract expires at the end of this season and it’s currently unclear whether he’ll sign a renewal or not.

Speaking in the match programme ahead of Lazio vs Venezia (via LazioNews24), Strakosha first looked ahead to this evening’s match.

I expect a very difficult match to face because Venezia are looking for important points, just like us. At this point in the season all the teams are fighting for their objectives.

Strakosha touched on if this was the strongest Lazio squad that he’s been a part of since his arrival.

I don’t know if it’s the strongest Lazio since I’ve been here, but it’s certainly one of the most mature.

Many of us have been playing together for many years, over time we’ve grown both on and off the pitch, this makes us more responsible.

Finally, Strakosha discussed how close he was to matching Felipe Pulici’s ability to keep a clean sheet for Lazio for 606 minutes of play.

I didn’t know I was so close to a legend like Pulici. This makes me proud to be in Lazio’s history. I think back to when I came here when I was 16 years old and to reach these goals with this shirt gives me goosebumps.

All this has come about thanks to my family, my team-mates, all the coaches I’ve had over the years, the fans and the club. I will always be grateful to everyone.

The 26-year-old Strakosha has made 21 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1890 minutes. In that time, he’s conceded 20 goals and kept nine clean sheets.
