The Numbers Proving Lazio Star Immobile Is Not Simply Penalty Merchant

Rival fans often suggest that Ciro Immobile only scores penalties for Lazio, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.

The comments have again dominated the discourse surrounding the 32-year-old Italian striker in recent days following the Biancocelesti’s 1-0 win over Venezia, where he scored the decisive penalty kick. The criticism is often used to diminish Immobile’s achievements with the Roman club.

Lazio’s Recent Form Makes Champions League No Longer Just a Dream

As highlighted by Italian journalist Stefano Cori on Twitter, only 24% of Immobile’s goals in Serie A have been scored from the penalty spot, which works out to 43 out of his 176 goals in the division.

In comparison, former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero scored 50 penalties in Serie A, which works out to 27% of his 188 goals in the Italian topflight.

Only One Doubt Bothering Sarri Ahead of Lazio’s Derby della Capitale vs Roma

Roma’s Francesco Totti is second on the list with 28%, having netted 71 penalties from his 250 Serie A goals throughout his 24-year career with the Giallorossi.

Topping the list is former Juventus, Inter and Milan forward Roberto Baggio; 66 out of his 205 Serie A goals were penalties, or 32%.
